John
Buehner:
John considers himself a
life-long student in the field
of music. Starting in 5th grade
playing the snare drum for the
elementary school band in 1972,
John chose to play percussion
due the multitude of instruments
percussionists use to make
music. Drum set has been John’s
focus since his first Sears blue
sparkle kit, purchased right out
of the catalog the following
year. John credits his parents
for their support, a long list
of teachers for their mentoring
and a multitude of fellow
musicians for their inspiration.
John took lessons and practiced
his butt off and by 15 had his
first union card allowing him to
play in clubs throughout central
Illinois. With a music minor
from Illinois State University,
John is at home on any stage, be
it an orchestra hall or a
“once-smoky” blues club. Here’s
a sampling of groups John has
performed with over the years:
ISU’s Big Red Marching Machine,
the Peoria Symphony Orchestra,
The Spector’s All Gold Rock &
Roll Show, Hip Pocket Blues
Band, Charlie Rogers’ Big Band
and the Inland Island Steel Drum
Band. John is a freelance studio
musician, laying down the beat
for numerous recordings and has
performed in bands that were the
opening act for Lil’ Ed and the
Blues Imperials and Shadowfax.
John has been a member of the
Percussive Arts Society and Phi
Mu Alpha music fraternity. John
has a blast performing with
Ransom on his '74 Ludwig Red
Sparkle drum kit. He blends
styles such as country, jazz,
blues, latin with good 'ole Rock
& Roll to propel the band
through their sets of
entertaining Classic Rock and
Country music.
